Hartmut is correct, but Ed still has a point.  Keeping the shroud in 
place without at least the air inlet connected concentrates heat on a 
portion of the pipe and can lead to cracking due to localized stresses.  
Also, the added heat will accelerate corrosion between the aluminum 
shroud and the steel or stainless pipe.  It is a simple matter to remove 
the shroud when rerouting the hoses.  Why avoid it?
