Mac, Lay a lint-free rag or paper towel in one hand and hold it below the oil tank cover. As you slowly draw out the dipstick with your other hand, insure enough of the rag is below it to catch oil as it rolls down toward the end of the stick. If your hand is not big enough, use a piece of cardboard to support the rag as you do this. A piece of aluminum or other material will serve the same purpose. The rag should be arranged so it looks like a folded dinner napkin as you do this versus just being balled up in your hand. All of the drippy oil should be captured. Use the same rag to wipe the stick before you slide it back into the tube after taking the reading.
I hope this helps. John On Wed, May 19, 2010 at 5:57 AM, pilotmac818 <[email protected]> wrote: > > > I know this will sound stupid but I make a mess every time I check the oil > level.
