All,

I'm looking for advice. My Ercoupe S/N 1963 had the original 5 gallon cowl tank
replaced with the aluminum tank (normally fitted to later models) in 1984 when
the stainless steel cowl skin was installed. About 4 years ago it began
leaking. John Wright, Jr., went over it and for the past 4 years it has not
leaked. Now it is leaking at the top front, and that is the cause of my fuel
smell.

I don't want to go through the work of pulling the tank and not have the fix
permanent. So I am considering replacing this tank. A new aluminum tank is
$1600, assuming I can actually find one.

So, from your collective experience, should I get another aluminum tank, try to
find a stainless tank, or what? I'm open to any solution as long as it's
possible and will last a long time.

Thanks!
