HI Kevin,

Welcome to the group.

Are you filling the header tank when you refuel the coupe ?

If so, the level may be too high, causing the overflow.

The only time to refill the header tank is whn you have flown too long, and
emptied all the tanks.

If you have continous overflow, this indicated a partiallyy clogged return
line...often in  the elbow fitting on the rear side of the header.  If the
plane is left sitting a long period, gasoline fumes collect here and become
shellac, stopping up the return line.....causing the header to overflow.

>From your description, is sduggests to me a partial blockage.

Have your mechanic crawl under the panel, and remove the line from the tank. I
used a tobacco pipe cleaner to unstop mine.

Subject: [ercoupe-tech] Fuel/ Header tank

We are a new Ercoupe  owner so trying to understand the quirks of such a nice
bird Serial # 2714 N2091H . When we start the engine or on run up we get a
little of fuel on the windshield and then it stops after 2-5 seconds. We have
tried to fill the main tanks 3/4 full and replaced the rubber gasket around the
cowling so we suspect that the fuel is coming out of the other gasket or the
air hole in the cap.
