I once owned a '46 Willys Jeep. This was identical to the Jeep (GP) used 
in WW II except for the paint.  The transfer case had a MTBF of about 
6000 miles.  Likely none used in the war ever got that many miles on them.

JC Whitney carried a transfer case countershaft bearing update kit...
