Mine will likely end up costing me that much by the time I am finished. I had
been looking at "new and shiny" but decided, instead, this Spring to keep my
'Coupe. I am planning to have the wings recovered and have begun making
arrangements with my A&P - for this coming fall. When that is complete I will
have about $30-32K in the plane. That will leave me $18-20K to upgrade the
engine to "Dream Machine" specs in the following year. Then I will have a
quality, good looking, "certificated" LSA-eligible aircraft that should last me
the rest of my (flying) life.
My 'Coupe already gets compliments just about wherever I go; and it certainly
is fun to fly. I can also fly on days where the winds, or crosswinds, keep most
new LSA fleet on the ground. If I were to switch to a brand new LSA I would
also get a "payment book" - which I have been able to avoid thus far. If I get
the need for "new and shiny" I can rent (at $100/hour wet) a variety of new LSA
planes near here. For the difference in payment book or not - I can keep the
'Coupe AND fly a new LSA for a few hours a month - and still be ahead.
Can ya tell I love my Ercoupe?
