There you have it.  Goodyear brake assemblies have a positive stop that 
prevents worn pucks from contacting the disk.  The more they wear the 
less pressure on the disk, until eventually, no braking action and no 
more wear.  IIRC, there is only 1/8" (1/16" per puck) of wear before the 
braking is affected.
