Thanks Lynn, that was exactly the information I needed. Darick ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Friday, July 2, 2010 9:45:42 PM Subject: Re: [ercoupe-tech] nose gear
Hey Darick: The nose gear comes apart from the top. After you get the 4 screws out of the top piece, you must pull the inside up to get the rubber bumper to clear the outer cylinder. Once you have that rubber bumper clear (I do not remember exactly here) there are two configurations. There are either 4 more screws that have to come out (they can come out through the holes that the outside ones go in) or there are two snap rings that have to come out. Sometimes, bouncing the gear on the tire (after you have the 4 outside screws out) will assist you in getting the rubber bumper to clear the outer cylinder. The removal of the fork will not help you get the cylinder apart. It has been a couple of years (maybe 4 or 5) since I had one apart, so I am not certain if there are only the 4 outside screws or also 4 screws on the inner cylinder. I believe there are a total of 8 that have to come out in order to get to the inner workings. Lynn Nelsen In a message dated 7/2/2010 5:52:35 P.M. I'm trying to get to the seals on the inside. Does the fork have to come off? That's the only thing I can see left to do. I took the nut off at the bottom on the inside of the fork, thinking that holds the fork on, but it doesn't move at all in relation to the steel tubing. Is this just a very snug fit? I've looked at the drawings, but I'm still having a difficult time understanding the assembly. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Darick
