Maybe some of you know, but I'd sure be interested in knowing everything
that went into FAA's decision to roost on 1320 lbs as the magic number for
Light Sport Aircraft. Some of the new Light Sport Aircraft are not only
fancier, but can fly faster and go further than my old 1400 lb. D model.

The Terrafugia is licensed at 1430 lbs because, like amphibious aircraft
which are also licensed at 1430 lbs, it is a dual use aircraft. The
added weight is to accommodate the additional safety equipment to allow
it to meet safety standards for automobiles.
