Hey Lee,
I have the same fuel gauge. 
Have trouble reading it even though my plastic is really clean.
The trouble is that it's hard to read down low on the left side near my 
thigh. 
The ambient light is low in that area made it visually hard to read. 
I'm going to install a battery operated miniature light in that area.
I would never trust that or any wing gauge anyway 
(I don't trust any Fuel Gauges) I rely on my Little Dipper and time based 
on GPH).
