Some additional notes on this -

1. How to construct an algorithm using remote datasets -
You need to know the ecwp address. Some examples of the ones
on www.Earthetc.com are

ecwp://www.earthetc.com/images/usa/1metercalif.ecw
ecwp://www.earthetc.com/images/world/esg_world_color.ecw
ecwp://www.earthetc.com/images/world/gtopo30.ecw
ecwp://www.earthetc.com/images/photos/red_flower.ecw

In general, the public images on EarthEtc have their ecwp address
displayed on the browser (for this purpose).

To load one of these datasets into ER Mapper all you need to do is
1. File/Open from the main menu. The file chooser will come up.
2. Specify the ecwp address (e.g. ecwp://www.earthetc.com/images/usa/1metercalif.ecw)
in the "Open" text field of the file chooser (about 3/4 of the way down).
3. Hit the OK or Apply button. ER Mapper will then go and load the dataset.
4. You can then save the displayed algorithm, and now you have an alg with a url as a
dataset !

Also, the dataset is stored as a preference, so you can build up a history of
the last 10 ecwp files accessed. These can be loaded thru the filechooser by clicking
on
the "ECW URL History" menu option of the file chooser (last one on the right).

2. Implications/characteristics -
The image will delay while it loads as much as possible in a short time,
and hitting the refresh button will give an updated view - this is particularly
relevant when viewing data over a slow connection. There is also a 4kx4k limit on
printing/zooming for an ecwp image. Other than that, the characteristics
are the same as displaying a local ecw file.

Hope this helps
cheers
Mike
