I like to tease Leik about his projects: "Leik, if it glows, flies,
hums, and is saucer shaped - I'm sorry, but it's a flying saucer."  He
gets sensitive about it, and I like him a lot, so I go easy.

Leik's contention is that rockets are all very well and good, but they
just don't have the specific impulse necessary to really enable a
spacefaring civilization.  You need to get launch costs *really* down
from current levels.  None of this $100/pound stuff, that's way too
expensive.  Since that's on the order of the best you can do with
rocket-based technology, clearly you need more advanced technology
than rockets.  Hence, lightcraft.
