In a September or August issue of Aviation Week, Rutan unveiled a new
aircraft. He wouldn't disclose the purpose of the aircraft, but I would
guess it was his XPRIZE carrier.
It's similar to that of the Proteus only the main structure is several feet
higher off the ground to allow for a larger vehicle to be placed on the main
structural spar.
Actually, it was an anonymous third party photo and a caption. Rutan has said nothing about it publicly. But if you happen to be standing outside here while it's flying, you can speculate all you wish. :) He first brought it out of the hangar just before Airventure, and it's been flying with increasing frequency as time goes on. All I can say is that the aircraft is beautiful, even more interesting than the Proteus. :D
