On the subject of the pops and bangs whilst pressurising composite tanks, interestingly I read in New Scientist a few months ago that if you tape a microphone to the tank when you do this you can record the sounds. Later you can use the fact that the pops and bangs get closer as all the cracks gradually join up into bigger cracks. This means that you can non destructively estimate the failure pressure of the tank.

Apparently the ESA use this for their composite tanks, and claim a 5% error bar.
