Facetiousness aside, I think kids grow up spending to much time watching science fiction related TV/movies and playing science fiction related games, and don't spend enough time working on science related hobbies. Then all that interests them is the fiction... not any science related achievements.

Hi folks ...
On this day, thirty years ago, the last Apollo landed on the moon
in a deep narrow valley called Taurus-Littrow. Gene Cernan and
Harrison "Jack" Schmitt (the only scientist to go to the moon) spent
75 hours on the surface, including just over 22 hours of EVA
activities. They travelled a total of 30.5 kilometers, mostly in their
electric "Lunar Rover" vehicle, and collected over 110 kg (243 lbs) of
moon rocks.
Ten years ago, I ran a small convention to commemorate the 20th
anniversary. At THAT time I remember saying "Who'd have thought in
1972 that it would be more than 20 years before we returned to the
Moon?" And now another 10 years have gone by. The early astronauts are
dying of old age and there's no credible attempt to go back.
* Sigh *
It sure makes me feel old. And sad. 8-(
