Would a layer of softer memory foam (Tempur-pedic type) make a difference to those drop tests? Little more self-molding, and might add a little give at the right time. Also, for the biprop, flammability starts to be a concern - looks like there are specialty fire resistant foams - http://www.kbe.dk/english/uk-main.htm - that might serve double duty.
