The top of the tank has nothing but pressurant gas in it, and can get
fairly hot during ascent.  Thin tank walls and largely-stagnant gas don't
conduct heat down to the liquid surface very well.

This is why the Atlas ICBM had to be stainless steel rather than aluminum,
despite having its LOX tank up at the top.
