True enough, Jerry, but there are very, very few rocket engines that are square -- and if you need more than one engine to make roll control work, you're back to the complications of multi-engine plumbing and so forth.
Well, four paddles around the outside of the bell makes a square exhaust, too. Since you're just nudging the exhaust stream to one side or the other, I'm not sure how much you really care that it's square. When the paddles are out of the way the exhaust is back to round.
