We figured out the serial problem.
Good work.
I've had endless problems over the years with serial ports. A lot has turned out to be crappy serial software in Windows (like HyperTerm, HyperAccess is better...a little).
I also had problems with Siemens integrated UART chips on Sun systems. On full auto they get overflows when talking to a Windows machine, the Siemens chips don't like getting 17 extra characters after they set flow control to STOP.
