Hi Ellen

I have 1 Senegal - Reggae
3 Indian Ringnecks - Sunumi (Sunny),  Pearl (on eggs) and Grady - her
hubby...Kiwi, Sunny's wife, was killed by a couple of dogs earlier this
year....won't discuss who
and 7 adopted and rescued lovebirds - Ozzie Ozbird and his wife Clementine -
just laid 8 eggs and have been feeding her liquid calcium....doing fine
Blitzen and Joy
Tia and Teaku
and Piper (as in pied - which he is)

add to that 3 eskies and 2 very old cats (Samantha and Charlie) and there you
have my zoo..LOL...the lovebirds with the exception of Ozzie, Clementine and
Joy were dumped on me...Pearl's on two eggs - her first clutch and Clementine
is on 8...if any of them are fertile it's going to be a noisy household this
spring :)

What kind of birds do you have, Marian?  I have a parrot and a cockatoo (both
females--fortunately, no eggs in the 20 years that I've had them).  They, of
course, are in addition to 2 Eskies and a spaniel/papillon mix, making up quite
the zoo in my house.

I use liquid calcium on my birds when they've laid a clutch - just a few drops
in their drinking water works like a charm and really perks them up fast...they
too are calcium depleted after laying eggs....one of them was so bad the other
night I thought she was going to pass out...now she's fine......you can get it
at the drugstore....also Dad used to treat mastastis in our cows with beer
believe it or not...strange but true and worked like a charm...the cows did
great and the liquor store employees thought Dad had a drinking problem
LOL....(all for you Hugh??) personally, I'll vouch for the liquid caclium
(every couple of days)...if she needs a fast calcium supplement....hope she is
doing better....

Most any dog or cat or any suckling animal suffers lack of calcium and all the
nutrients for forming the young.  No wonder Sadie feels better being off the
feeder!  I am 74 years old and worked at several humane societies and know some
things...  Sadie needs the same puppy food as the puppies but with milk added
to her chow.  I never had any prob with canned milk..  Can't you imagine how
much puppy tissue she has made?  she has given her all... Simply give her a new
start as a puppy herself.  If this is the problem and she snaps up then I would
doubt any Vet who does not know or use this simple remedy.  Love you poor
overworked Dears and hope this ends soon.  If this is a calcium deficiency the
Mums do improve in hours like magic.  Hate to know she is suffering as this is
a killer!
