THE SITUATION IN
AMBON / MOLUCCAS – Report No. 470
1.
TERROR BOMB AGAIN – “Suara
Maluku” newspaper this morning reports that last night at about 1.00
a.m. three young men became
victim of a terrorist action. It happened in the
village of Lateri, east of the city of Ambon. The three were people from the
village of Waai, who had attended some festivity in Lateri and were
resting at the side of the road waiting for some means of transport to take them
back to Waai. Suddenly two people on a motorbike while passing by, threw a
grenade at the three, injuring the three of them. Two could go home after been
treated in a hospital. This morning Jakarta based Metro TV reported that the third one had died of
his injuries.

RMS FLAGS CONFISCATED – In
Latta, a village west of Lateri, the police confiscated 14 RMS flags that
undoubtedly were being readied to be hoisted on or around next April 25.

CONFERENCE ON PEACE – In Australia, the Uniting International Mission of the
Uniting Church in
Australia is organizing a conference titled "Peace:
a Mission, Not an Option". Five Ambonese, three
Muslims and two Christians, all members of “Young Ambassadors for Peace”
(YAP) and “Closing the Gap” (GAP) are among
those who attend this Conference of YAP Coordinators from six countries. Thus
was reported to us by Joy Balazo, Executive Secretary Uniting International
Mission Uniting Church in Australia.
