Here's a related question, are you married to Vow? I have nothing against
it, but it's very poorly supported in the community, especially when it
comes to Istanbul. If I were to create a wrapper around, say, Mocha/Chai to
make unittests dry, would you be fine with that?

Grunt is not without its fair share of issues, but I, personally, don't
see what makes it so horrible that one would rather write shell scripts
instead.
Anyway, as far as I am aware Jake, volo and Grunt are the big players.
If none of them satisfy your needs, shell scripts it will be :-)
