That's an approach you can definitely take in custom rules if you prefer.
We tend to stay away from convention-based rules in the core because it's
difficult to find conventions that everyone accepts. That is, of course,
why ESLint was built so it is easy for everyone to create the rules they
want even if they don't fit in the core.
