I think that the trust is built with familiarity.

When you have a long friendship time, and knows better the person.

If this person has the characteristics or personality which matches with
your personal values, naturally you will be more confident about the person.

About  if he/she turns out to be a liar or break the confidence, will
depend how severity was the fault.

It will decide if the person will have a second chance or not.
