[Ethereal-users] Problems with PCMCIA interfaces on an IBM laptop

I have tried both an 802.11 (Addtron) and an IBM 100M Ethernet PCMCIA card 
in my IBM T20 laptop.  Ethereal 0.9.15 could not see either interface.  When
I do 
"tethereal -D" I get:
tethereal: There are no interfaces on which a capture can be done

I have installed Ethereal on several desktops without any problems.
Am I doing something stupid!?
