Thanks to the responses on the list, I got rid of the error message:

> error opening c:\Program Files\Ethereal\asn1/default.tt

I did then get the same error reported by Stuart MacDonald:

> I can clear the entry fine, but hitting OK causes a

> Hitting OK on that, and reloading Ethereal shows that the

To fix this...

Edit -> Preferences -> User Interfaces -> Font

Once I specified a font here I stopped getting the error when trying to fix the
"asn1/default.tt" issue.

However, this font only seems to get used when viewing packet captures. How do I
change the font size for menus and dialogs. Everything is so tiny I can barely read
it... despite having brand new bifocals =). Switching from 1024 x 768 to 800 x 600
did not help.

I do not know if this is relevent... when I installed (on Win NT v4.0 SP6a) the setup
components list had Ethereal GTK1 ticked (but not changeable) and Ethereal GTK2 could
not be ticked.
