All your discussions sound very interesting. I know I'm not really part of the decision makers here but my 2-cents from a readers point of view.

I would suggest that GNUstep applications run in Étoilé run with the old GNUstep theme, not Nesedah, to provide a visual clue that they are not full members of the Étoilé environment.

There is some validity to this (things that work different should appear different), but I would personally rather design a new theme than use the GNUstep one. Something that was a bit more integrated into Nesedah (just as modern), but maybe using a different color. Or, maybe not...

In my point of view ( a biased mac user ) that would be like running OS9 apps in OS X. And what Jesse said would be like like having brushed metal apps and regular Aqua apps. This is purely what I imaged it to be while reading this, but I personally think what Jesse said makes more sense only if there is even a need to differentiate. My reasoning for this would be because I'm assuming all the etoile specific frameworks work with regular apps too? (like gnustep apps can use DataKit and other *Kit for etoile?), so why even differentiate? It should be obvious what is legacy and what isn't just by the way you interact with it, right?
