My point is that the way you interact with things should be re- enforced by visual clues. Have you used any Qt apps on OS X? They look the same as native apps, but they behave slightly differently. This is fantastically irritating to the user, since they are then forced to consciously think about what that are doing. When the user is using an application, they will have to switch their brain from component-object mode to application-document mode. Without a significant visual clue, this will be a very jarring switch.
