The merge will probably happen in Étoilé cvs, later we will move to

Subversion.
Why not Arch ? Mainly because it is imho too much complicated to use
and also too much different from cvs for newcomers.
What would be my personal preference ?… I would prefer to move to
Darcs
(not supported by GNA anyway), more radical than Arch but simpler to
use. Take a look at : http://abridgegame.org/darcs/
While arch is quite complicate, you can have simpler frontend with
http://bazaar-ng.org/ (in python by ubuntu folks).
Hmm, it seems bazaar is not an Arch frontend but a completely new SCM
(very nicely designed) but still in early development.
I would agree to move to it when it will be really usable.
Darc while it is very good,
was written in haskell, I was worrying if there will be enough
maintainers
for the project in future.
hmm may be, but it is starting to be used by various projects now.
Also note that I think Tom Lord is working on
a simpler front end and also arch2(?) which will have backward
compatibility.
Probably not available soon ?
And Arch complicated use lies probably in some choices in its core
architecture, so I doubt it can be really "fixed" even with version 2.
Though, I am fine with darcs since I personally like it.
Well GNA doesn't support it currently, that's why I was advocating for
Subversion, at least until other SCMs support is added or we move to
our own server.
On a side note, Trac which is a SCM and Project management tool to use
with Subversion, looks nice : <http://www.edgewall.com/trac/>
Darcs support seems to be on the way for Trac too.
Last note, for a detailed SCMs comparison :

Banlu can probably makes extra comments here ?
Yeh, I am trying to make diagramkit to reach a usable stage and
I'll continue working on Maliwan asap. (I needs diagramkit for
maliwan's
test suites)
ok
--> WindowManagerCore (Garma) : "virtual window server" built on top
of
X11 (to allow applications to use X11 backend but in a X11 agnostic
way, a window manager for example)… I hope I'm not telling totally
absurd things here, Banlu ?
In Garma cvs WindowManager part, we can find StepWiRE, TestWM, XWire,
Banlu could you explain a bit more what are their roles ?
TestWM is a simple wm which makes use of wmcore. It's a simple app,
did nothing just loading wmcore bundle. StepWiRE is my friend's
experiment
on another WM to use wmcore. XWiRE is a place holder for plugins for
doing hints
for specific environments (but I guess we could just put every wm-spec
related
stuffs in wmcore) and addition reusable module like dock and pager.
ok, that's more clear now. So we would just merge WindowManagerCore and
TestWM, ok ?
--> DiagramKit may be we should mirror it from gsimageapps project ?
(Garma) : diagramming framework
DiagramKit is now officially hosted by gsimageapps :
https://gna.org/projects/gsimageapps
No comment. Fabien?
ok, I will ask Fabien later (he isn't subscribed to this list), it
isn't something which is immediately needed.
--> Calendar (Garma) : calendar management application
A side note that I'm trying to work on a framework that provide
component for doing stuffs related to calendar. Currently trying to
make clock cell base on AClock.
We could have a TimeKit or TimeFixerKit then ;-)
--> Shhh (Garma) : audio controller, currently only for XMMS
Banlu, what's your plan for Shhh evolution ?
- Make playlist manager and allow users to mark their favorite CDs
that will make them a static window on the screen, and you click
in each window to get interface to play it. It will looks like you can
have your favorite CDs on your desktop.
That looks interesting… when I will have made more progresses on
Workspace we could discuss how it could fit with Workspace
annotations/components model may be.
- Make an applications system to allow many virtual devices that
you can virtually wire them together. Some of devices will be
a frontend for musickit synthesizers so you can have realtime
filtering over Shhh's audio output.
ok.
Have you been able to compile MusicKit with GNUstep ?
That would be cool.
May be we should add a category /Services/User/Games with few games
because Banlu has written/ported very good ones ;-)
--> LapisPuzzle : http://home.gna.org/garma/lapispuzzle/index.html
--> NeXTGo : http://maliwan.sourceforge.net/nextgo.jpg
My games are in gap project. May be you can mirror them too. Bheron?
Yep.
I'm working on Ladder.app (征子, shicho) http://senseis.xmp.net/?Ladder
which will be available in gap and will have more features than nextgo.
ok.
I just pushed your user permissions for Étoilé to admin level. Freel
free to play with it ;-)
I think, you can start to merge in Étoilé cvs, parts of Garma we
discussed in this thread… May be you have some comments or objections ?
Do you want to discuss some points in more details ?
Few comments… I would prefer to have license with author and copyright
included in each source code file, initially you could rename
COPYING.GPL and similar to LICENSE. What do you think ?
I have just seen that Maliwan is using Autoconf, we can keep it for
now, but in future I would like to have it avoided (I just hate
Autoconf :-); I have done some experiments with pmk
<http://pmk.sourceforge.net/> which is quite nice, but it has some
limitations and I still need to figure how to solve them.
Thanks,
Quentin.
