Hi Tobias Welcome to Etoile.
I hope you find something that interests you on the project. We're still at that stage where things are very much open to new ideas and there is plenty of new things to work on. I used to use Debian, but I've just switched to Ubuntu too. I used to use FreeBSD, and have flirted with switching back now that I mostly interact with Linux through a VM. It is not hard to pick up coming from Linux (certainly easier than switching to Solaris) but some things will still surprise you such as bash not being the default shell (you'll have to install it from ports). Its certainly a lot more stable and unchanging, and much better documented at the system utilities level.
