My only thought up front is that the toolbar icons will all be designed black and white (minus a few where the color is essential for the icon), and can be colorized as needed.

Nesedah has a gray dominant, so I think I would prefer quite colorful toolbar icons rather than mostly black & white ones. I would also point out colors allow to make quicker distinction between icons than just relying on shape. However having few of them carefully selected with a black look might be an idea to experiment with.

Now I think you can continue to work on black & white icons idea and we will see what it looks like when they are inserted in their context, then we can decide what needs to be redesigned in a colorful way or at least colorized. Another possibility to explore would be to introduce an IconKit filter which modifies the color of monochromatic icons, so we can customize the hue on the fly. We could combine two main colors picked in the color palette to alter UI look, these two colors would be the 'highlight' color and the 'toolbar icon' color.

Sorry -- I maybe didn't explain myself well-enough. I'm just designing the bulk of them to work in black and white. They can optionally be colorized after the fact.
