Some of you may have seen or heard about these, but I've started
reworking the icons that Jasper originally did as SVG image, as
well as fleshing out the rest of the icons on the following list:
http://www.gnustep.org/resources/documentation/Developer/
UserExperience/default-icons.html
Below is my start of that work:
http://jesseross.com/clients/etoile/ui/icons/
There are tons of icons to design, so this is just the start.
Based on the documentation above, Application and Document icons
should be 64x64, and Toolbar icons should be 32x32. However, if I
remember correctly, most people have requested 48x48 icons for
Applications and Documents.
Can someone give me some clarification on what the preferred size
is for these icons? That way I can just post them on the site at
the correct size, and people can pull them for direct use in their
own apps.
We set on 48x48 initially because it was a lot more expansive to have
them designed at 64x64 and also this last size is rarely used in icon
view. Most of time people uses 48x48 or 32x32 in icon view. So until
we can optimize the icon itself at all size, we have an icon format
that handles several sizes or we support svg, I would say it's better
to deliver them in 48x48 as initally envisioned.
The default size in toolbar is 24x24 but toolbar icon can be used in
other UI contexts than toolbar where 32x32 will probably the highest
size that makes senses in term of usual UI elements (smaller sizes
will be use too I think).
Quentin.
