There is a version issue if you compile Etoile with GNUstep stable then run with GNUstep trunk. Once you are stick with a version of GNUstep, say -trunk, then you can keep 'svn update' without recompiling Etoile, unless someone breaks the compatibility. And as Quentin, I never run 'make uninstall', just overriding the older version with another 'make install' or delete the installed components and reinstall again.
