Hi, having got Etoile running and being brave I have now decided to have a go and temporarily replace WindowMaker by Etoile as my desktop environment for my daily work. Knowing perfectly well that the software is still in a very early state I do not expect much, and what I see actually looks already very good to me. Still there's a number of questions (the answers may look much like "yes", "no", "later"):
- Can I remove icons from the dock? - Can I configure icons for applications in the dock? - Can I configure the sorting order of the icons in the dock? - Can I keep the dock from growing beyond my screen's dimensions? - Do you plan to allow setting the dock up to a MacOS-like horizontal layout? - Can I increase the number of virtual desktops (how)? - Can I configure the hotkey used by AZSwitch (how)? - Will there be an integration into the SystemPreferences panel? - Is there a source of information on how I can configure the applications shipping with Etoile (I would not mind hacking my GNUstep/Defaults/.GNUstepDefaults if necessary)? I already figured out the openbox stuff for Azalea, but the other apps still seem a mystery to me :) - Is there a way I can get a desktop menu containing apps to launch (like in WindowMaker), ideally using a keyboard hotkey? The openbox menus seem to be suppressed in some way. I must say I am excited about the idea of combining the GNUstep API with the idea of a Mac-like UI, and though I might switch back to WindowMaker after a while, this will only be because at this early stage there still seem to be a few things missing which I consider very important. Great work!
