Micro$oft has been trying really hard to make Outlook more secure.
I honestly think that they're making a lot of progress.
(they ought to... it's not like they haven't got the resources)

go to:
http://office.microsoft.com/productupdates

and install ALL of the recommended updates for Outlook.
It's a painless and semi-automatic process to download and
install the updates.

The latest Outlook security patches make it practically impossible
for a "e-mail worm virus" to invade your system.  It blocks all the
known types of "unsafe" attachment files.  If someone e-mailed you a
script, you certainly wouldn't want to open it!  But if you
accidentally clicked on it by mistake, you would at least hope that
Outlook should refuse to open it, right?  That's what the latest
updates @ http://office.microsoft.com/productupdates  will accomplish.

I'm not saying the product is perfect... but it's improving.
At least the *updates* are free :)
