I think the popular audio players (iTunes, SoundJam, Audion) all have 
their formats built in so I don't think you could just write a 
plugin, drop it in a folder and expect it to work. You would have to 
write a patch that supported it. I may be wrong about that, there's 
surely some audio program out there with plugin support.

Doug Hornig says on his Shorten page that playing SHNs directly might 
be a new feature in Shorten for Mac but the guy is so lazy I'm not 
holding my breath. I do like the idea of emailing the creators of 
SoundApp and MacAmp and asking them for SHN support.
