hello all :)
it's not as much the cd drive it's self, as it is the app. that you use
to burn with.
i know that nero allows you to overburn a disc to whatever length you
set it to allow to (but if you run out of disc, you will coaster, so if you
are going to try any of this take little steps up in burning length to see
how it works for you).
from my understanding (and experience), the only thing that is different
between the 74, 80, and 90 disc's (as well as the 99min ones i assume), is
where they are marked to stop at. so with a program that allows for
overburning, then you can burn right out to the very edge, making a disc
that was labeled as an 80min disc, a 90min disc (or even a 74 burned to
99...but i don't know for sure on that one, as i've never seen or used the
99's).
    the problem???
almost none of the disc players (i.e. car, home, walkman style, ect...)
on the market will play anything over an 80min disc (and some of the older
unit's won't even play anything over a 74).
so yes, they work, and they actually aren't much different that a
regular 74 or 80min disc (both of which can be burned beyond their "stop
markers" with the right program), but they aren't very compatible with
non-computer based cd players.
