I don't think it's ETREE asking that, it's you.  But you're not 
alone--there are at least 2 tapers I know who specifically ask that you 
do not encode their recordings to mpeethree.
But they always include a note in the text file.  In any event, there is 
no official etree policy about what you do with the music you download 
(besides not selling it).  Etree doesn't ask you to do or not to do 
anything with your downloads.  What etree _does_ ask is that there be no 
discussion of mp3 on these lists.  But I'd be quite a hippocrite if I 
asked you to stop this thread, wouldn't I?
