Ron,

I used to have an external USR modem that was the PPP connection for
my Slackware system. I had Slackware configured to automatically re-establish

connection whenever connection was lost. Of course, over phone lines,
I didn't really want 24 hr connection, so I just turned of the modem when I
wanted off and turned it back on when I was ready for Linux to re-establish
PPP. Worked for me. Hope this helps,

Marc
