Well, are you using the autoconfigure (if it's available)? That should
tell you more details about what's missing, and then either add it or
fix the path with a link. Odds are, you are missing some library
(something in /lib, might be either the QT library or GTK library) or
you have a newer version of the library. SuSE puts the libraries in the
development section of the RPM's if you need to install them via YaST.
Usually, they are not installed with the preconfigured setups when you
install the system (if you picked the workstation, network, or minimal
configuration) because they assume that you'll be installing everything
from RPM and therefore do not need the compiler libraries.

If the code isn't written for autoconfigure, then look for a readme file
or something that says "requires the XXXXX library" and then do a locate
or find to figure out where that thing is.

Subject: elug: configure's don't recognize my X!!! help, pls.

Hi, I'm running SuSE 6.3, and am getting closer to solving my dhcp
up/down
problems, but much new software that I (attempt to) install/build uses
configure scripts to build makefiles, and many of them (some standard
format?) fail to work when they can't find my X...
I think 6.3 has Xfree86 3.5... but I _definately_ do have X, as I
usually
run these scripts in an X console... (as root).

I suspect there is some environment variable that is not set as
expected,
or maybe some linkage that is missing. Any clues?

What specific info from my installation would help in figuring this out?

thanks for your help on my previous issue --
I found linipcfg and GNetConfig
(I wasn't able to install either yet );

  ben

PS - I won't be able to make the demo day this Sat; I'll be
birthday-partying, but would like a Turbo3.6 workstation disk
if one is available, could someone hang onto one for me?

thanx again!!
