For those of you who remember, we did get spammed about a month ago by somebody
stealing a message from David Mandel and putting in an advertisement. Hopefully, this
is the last.

I would like to remind everyone that it is so easy to hijack somebody else's mail
account, so it's not a good idea to spam the offending address since the owner of it
might not be the spammer.

In most cases, the best response is for ONE of us (either EUGLUG president, EFN staff,
or another tactful, responsible adult) to mail the domain owner (find it through
whois, or failing that, [EMAIL PROTECTED]) and notify them that an abuse has
occured. In some states, there are laws against spam, and domain owners are in the
best position to fix problems like this.

However, if we get much more spam on the list, we might further explore other options.
Unfortunately, having more people on the list means that we get better dialogs, but
it also increases our visibility to spammers.

If you are thinking about leaving the list, please don't. Just because an anti-social
yahoo or two are making noise, lists are THE best way to share tips and info, since
everyone has access to mail. If you still want to be removed from the list, see our
web site for details on how to do that, but please don't send a request for removal to
the list itself.

I think that just about covers my feelings about this.
