Freenix Hardware RAID?

Anyone here done any hardware RAID for enterprise level/missions critical
stuff with Linux or FreeBSD on the x86 platform? I'm researching servers
from SGI and Dell mainly, and trying to find a hardware RAID5 solution
that's both stable and fast. I hear mixed things about the Adaptec raid
controllers that come with the Dell boxes. The AMIs that are available with
Dell, I hear are pretty poor performers...comments, etc welcome. Home
experimenters need not apply in this case :-)
