Software Engineer

(commonly known as "server appliance") software solutions, delivering
modular components and online system integration tools for building
Linux server appliances. WireX's core product is Immunix(TM), a family
of products and technologies that facilitates web-based delivery of
built-to-order, highly secure ( http://immunix.org/ ) Linux operating
systems for server appliances.
We are growing rapidly as a result of continued technology
breakthroughs, innovative products and strategic focus. Our mission is
to be the number one building block supplier of server appliance
solutions for businesses who are developing networking hardware.
We currently have an opening for two experienced and highly motivated
SOFTWARE ENGINEERS in our downtown Portland, Oregon office.
As a core member of WireX's engineering team, you'll be responsible for
taking existing Linux services (routing, NAT, Apache, etc.) and writing
scripts to manage them. In addition, RNA Wizards must be created to
manage the services via the scripts.
Responsibilities:
You would specifically be responsible for two aspects of "Appliance
Service" development:
1. You will write scripts (preferably in Perl), which can be used to
manage any aspect of the service. For example, if a proxy server
has a configuration file, a set of scripts (or one big script)
would be needed to change any values that would ordinarily be
altered by hand-editing the file. These scripts need to be written
in such a way that if the file is edited by hand, the scripts will
still function as advertised. Brittle scripts are bad.
2. You will link these scripts into a web-based wizard-oriented
interface. We have a web-wizard engine that has a fairly simple
(designed to be used by Technical Writer level people) method for
building configuration and management "wizards." You will have to
build these wizards to spec and use scripts written in part 1 to
build a complete "Service" which can be fully managed through
WireX's web interface.
Background/Experience:
* Extensive working knowledge of Perl.
* Two years of Linux administration experience preferred, either
professional or personal
* Working knowledge of Basic HTML.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
* A team player attitude.
* BS in EE, CS or related field is appreciated, but not required:
WireX values "hack ability".
* Excellent writing skills preferred.
* Experience with internationalization a plus.
