Check out the linux laptop pages at

http://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/kharker/linux-laptop/

to see if your Toshiba is listed. I've used this resource for my own
laptop (a gateway) and it helped me to get the little things working
that are a little tough (sound, PCMCIA).

Linda Carpenter said these things on 20000803.1637:
| I'm the proud owner of a Toshiba 410CS laptop... (finally) and it is a fine
| laptop... except all the utilities and drivers are written for win95
| (ick)... I'd really much rather put linux on it instead... is this a good
| idea or am I looking at a path that is more of a hobby than a professional
| solution... I'd much rather write code and do email than try to fix the
| patches and solve undocumented API's...
|
| if it is a reasonable solution, which distro should I get???

| LindaC, sending smiles to everyone...
