The default installations for SuSE, Mandrake or RedHat will give you all 
(or more) you need to
start off.

Suggest using Arkeia for network tape backups, Samba for workgroups and 
ipchains (gfcc is nice) for
firewalling.

SuSE has the best of all distros documentation for getting things started 
and networking with windoze.
