Debian 2.2 is the lattest stable version. 
http://www.debian.org

All you have to do is
 
apt-get dist-upgrade 

This will go and get the lattest Debian.  Then if you want to be on the
cutting edge you can go to the unstable which will be the next release.
You would then edit
/etc/apt/sources.list
change all the "stable" to "unstable"  then
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade

I think that would be it.  Be aware unstable is just that.
