2.2 is the current stable.  It's also known as 'potato'.  it's using a
2.2.17 kernel I believe.  Kernel version 2.4 will be out soon, from
what I understand, but you could use it now, if you wanted.  It's pretty
nice.

Debian's stable and unstable aren't like other distros.  unstable is still
more stable than most other distributions, and more likely to be current.
Unstable is 'fresh', while stable is 'solid, no unknowns'.

If you are using a home machine, running unstable makes sense, if you want
a larger variety of software and the most recent releases. For a
production machine, running stable makes more sense, since you want solid
and zero errors.
