The shell of your efn account still exists; if you give me your current
phone number, i can reactivate it for you. You would be able to use
shell-only access at no cost, and you can use it with a terminal program
or by telnet or ssh to telnet.efn.org. We are, or course, using the
dreaded BSD, but one can learn to live with it.
As far as newsgroups, i haven't noticed any particular censorship-related
theme in the selection of what is carried; i'll speak to Steve VanDevender,
(efn mail admin, linux developer, and uoregon.edu employee) about what
their policy is on adopting newsgroups. I wish they would carry
alt.fan.mailer-daemon... IIRC, there are some sites that allow public
NNTP access, at least readonly.
