There was about 17 people this week.

There were 5 computers being worked on.

Before the meeting I stopped at Staples. I started talking to this guy. I
mentioned I ran Linux and he had a bunch of questions. I told him everything
Linux could do and windows couldn't. He almost bought a box then. I told him
he could get it free at the clinic and he liked that. So he might be in this
coming week. This had me so excited.

Seth brought in his Think NIC. It's a computer without the hard drive which
uses Linux. It runs off the CD. It has 64 Megs of memory and flash memory.
You can read about it at http://www.thinknic.com . It sells for $199 and would
be great for schools, library's,banks and anyplace else which needs public
access. If there is a problem, you turn it off and restart it. There was a
couple of us which tried it out. Very nice.

Seth also showed us a site which was very funny. It's advertisements. There
was a large group of us watching a couple of them. It was very funny. You'll
have to ask Seth for the specific advertisements. Unfortunately you can only
view the site in windows. Netscape needs a Quicktime plugin which they don't
have for Linux. I guess we will have to start an e-mail campaign to get them to
write a plug-in for Linux netscape or have addcritic change their format. Well
here is the URL
http://www.adcritic.com .

Neil worked on one of the PC's and installed Flashplayer and some other things.

Rob brought in a Klein bottle. This was an amazing thing to see. It
supposedly has only one surface. Bob Miller <kbob> sent the URL
http://www.kleinbottle.com . Take a look at the pictures. I drew it out, then
traced from inside to out and it does seem to be one surface.

Stacey took pictures of the group with his digital camera. Thank you Stacey.

Ralph was working with Stan getting Komba (K Samba) to work. They got network
printing going. Stan was saying he could send messages to Ted via his printer.
Stan said Konquer was definetly improved. He had KDE 2 going. If you haven't
got it, take a look at it on Stan's machine.

Randolph showed me what they are doing in Scalable Vector Graphics. This is
going to revolutionize the way CAD and CAM drawings are going to be sent. Make
a website with your latest architechure site drawings. There is beta support
for it. Unfortunately these items are not yet implemented in Netscape. Adobe
has no plug-ins for Netscape which runs on Linux. If anyone knows the e-mail
for Adobe, let's write them and let them know we use Linux. They will never
know unless we tell them.

There are a couple people who asked on the list about networking two computers.
Maybe someone can show us how. I've done it before but haven't had the need.
I'd like to try it again.

Tim
