well, it's a standard PPP connection via modem normally, so it can be
made to get the guide info via a LAN rather than dialout.

I fully expect someone will hack it to do so.  The ethernet was the
missing piece.
Doing PPP/SLIP via serial was done before, but Serial speed is too slow.

I want to be able to send someone with a Tivo a tv show from my Tivo.

With Cable modem speeds, this is doable maybe.
